National Drones Institute – Remote Pilot Licence Course
Do you want (or need) to fly a drone or a remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) commercially in Australia? Not sure where to start? Feeling a little overwhelmed?
Whether you’re an experienced hobbyist seeking commercial certification or a novice seeking instruction on how to fly a drone for the first time, we’re here to help. We provide the training you need to become a safe, professional and competent drone operator.
The National Drones Institute is Australia’s leading, Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) approved provider of both online and in-class remote pilot training and Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) certifications.
In just 5 days, we will provide you with the training to qualify for both a RePL and an Aeronautical Radio Operators Certificate (AROC).
Why do you need an RePL or an AROC?
CASA requires a Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) to operate a drone (or Remotely Piloted Aircraft) that weighs above 2kg and is being used for commercial purposes.
If you intend on conducting any flying within controlled airspace, you will also require an Aeronautical Radio Operator Certificate (AROC). This gives you the ability to monitor the appropriate VHF aviation frequency as well as make broadcasts when operating within 3nm of a non-controlled aerodrome.
To make things as easy as possible, we combine both the RePL and the AROC certification into the same 5-day course. That way, when you’ve completed the course, you’ll have everything you need to start flying!
In addition to a RePL and an AROC, you also need to obtain a RPA Operators Certificate (ReOC) or gain employment with, or operate under a company that holds an ReOC, like us for example!
What will you learn?
The course is designed from the outset to be as engaging as possible through the use of animations, technology and a comprehensive study guide written specifically for RPA operations.
Over the 5-day course, 3 days are focussed on theory and 2 days on practical.
Some of the topics covered in the course include:
- Flight Planning
- Controlled Airspace
- Air Law
- Identifying airspace
- Gaining area approvals
- NOTAMS (Notice to airmen)
- Principles of Flight
- Weight and Balance
